Solar Compass
The apparent position of the Sun or the Moon (as well as any other celestial body) upon the sky could be
calculated using some mathematics and simple data. All you need to know is your exact geolocation and precise time.
Solar Compass is an android application that uses this method in a somehow reverse way: it helps finding the
cardinal directions just by pointing your android-powered device towards the Sun or the Moon. Since it is a non-magnetic compass,
it is not affected by interfering magnetic fields. With this application the astronomy-based orientation could be quite easy
and sufficiently accurate. Unlike the magnetic needle, it aligns with the true geographic poles and thus avoids the magnetic declination of the conventional compasses. Furthermore, Solar Compass doesn't even require a GPS module in order to work properly. Optionally, you can enter your location by hand and the application will store it and use it to calculate the exact directions.
